The Little Chapel

how to visit little chapel guernsey

The Little Chapel in St. Andrew, Guernsey, is just adorable! It is tiny, at least the initial impression looking at it from the outside, and all covered in broken china and pebbles, both interior and exterior. Crossing the threshold I was flabbergasted by all that was tucked into the confined space, several shrines, and on two floors. On the ground floor, in the grotto, you definitely need to watch your head. When I first spotted the church on the hillside, there was nothing that indicated that it was possible to go inside, so a super surprise! There’s also a surrounding garden. It’s ok, but nothing noteworthy. The Little Chapel from 1914, is a miniature version of the grotto and basilica in Lourdes, France, so now I’m a bit curious about the French “twin”. Further down the dead end, there looked to be a gift shop, cafe, or something. I didn’t check it out.

This place is easily reached by public transportation from St. Peter Port. Take bus number 71 (direction Airport). Contactless payment only, like credit card. 1.25 pounds one way for a 10-15 minute ride. However, I walked from the German Underground Hospital to the Little Chapel, about a 15 min walk, and hopped on the bus going back to town. Bus stop is called Little Chapel.
