Oak Alley Plantation

After exploring the swamps of Louisiana, we took it to up a notch, and decided to stop by Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, on our way down south towards New Orleans. Great River Road that runs along the Mississippi river, is dotted with plantation homes, all beautiful and with the same grim history. Initially we had decided on visiting Evergreen Plantation, but not fitting our plans, we had to go for our runner-up. Not knowing what the other plantations offer, I can’t say our pick was better or worse. What I can say is that the money shot, and best part, is the oak ally with the mansion in the background. The slave quarters exhibit and the rest of the plantation grounds weren’t too fascinating… You are able to tour the inside of the main building, with a guide, but seeing the interior of old houses, I’m over and done with. Instead we headed over to the restaurant, cafe, bar, gift shop area – to have our first go at gumbo :), which I later, after a second try, figured out wasn’t my kind of thing.
