The National Mall

what to see do national mall washington dc usa

This was my first meeting with Washington D.C, a Marine Corps marathon at the Mall on a Sunday morning. A lot of people, but it felt peaceful still. It was actually a very nice welcome. The National Mall is a beautiful landmark, with the Capitol at one end, and Lincoln memorial at the other, both with their own Reflecting Pool. Halfway from one side to the opposite, you pass the Washington Monument obelisk. This landscaped park became my neighbourhood, as I stayed at a hotel a fairly short walk away, by the Washington Channel, and a lot of the well-known museums of the Smithsonian Institution line the green space. I didn’t take the time explore the bordering parks, like West Potomac Park, Constitution Gardens, and the Ellipse, which make the National Mall appear even bigger. Those memorials, sculptures, and statues are for next time.
