If you can’t go to Kyiv, Ukraine, for Chicken Kyiv, you can go to Bazilijonai in Vilnius, Lithuania. Might not be exactly the same – I will always miss mashed potatoes and creamy mushrooms, but definitely an excellent sub. The restaurant is just outside the city gate (Gate of Dawn), in a fairly anonymously looking building, among other anonymously looking buildings. Not a place I’d expect to find a great dining spot. Could explain why it wasn’t super busy on a Sunday evening. However a steady stream of people still. Bazilijonai serves Lithuanian food, Eastern European fare, and I also spotted a burger on the menu. Inside surroundings are nice, up-to-date. Outside seating also, but then you’re more or less in the parking lot. As this restaurant is next door to my hotel, there’s a big chance I’ll be back 🙂
Update: Yeah, I went back 😀 Sat in the basement, which I didn’t find as nice as the upstairs. Food still good. Grilled beef tenderloin (shashlik), potato gratin, veggies, and creamy green pepper sauce. You can choose type of meat, sauce, side dish, how vegetables are prepared, and sauce.
