The smell of laundry detergent on the bed linens at St. Georges guesthouse in St. Peter Port in Guernsey, made me think of home, and of things being clean 🙂 Great feeling, and can’t say I’ve had that at a hotel before. The owner has recently taken over the place, and is in the beginning of renovating, and had had new beds put in the room I was given. I could definitely tell, very comfy. This being the welcome after an early bird check-in – yes, you can check in from 08:30 am – was the perfect start to the day, and stay. What I didn’t get this morning, was the rumoured breakfast basket, which, for the rest of my visit, was waiting outside my door at 8 o’clock. That would have been icing on the cake! One thing that can be considered a drawback to this accommodation, is the location, even though you sit by an awesome shoreline with views of the other Guernsey islands. It is outside the town centre, about a 10 minute walk. After a while I got used to it, and found other, nicer streets to walk along, through neighbourhoods, instead of the busy main road. Wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a bus stop nearby. Besides, for the basic necessities, you need not go into town, there is a grocery store a couple of minutes away, and several restaurants – seemed popular (China Red and Otto fully booked on a Saturday evening), so assume good, I got to try the latter only. Also, I ended up getting a ride to the ferry terminal, upon my departure to Saint-Malo, France. That’s customer service!
