The Streets of Kowloon

what to do see kowloon hong kong

This area just did not rub me the right way… I’m not quite sure why, but in the end I found myself walking aimlessly around, and unlike other times when I find myself doing, and loving, that, I just did not feel it. There’s no doubt shopping is a big thing in Hong Kong :), but the Kowloon main thoroughfare Nathan Road was just too much for me. At the Southern end of the street, at my starting off point coming off the Star Ferry, it was “calm” enough, with designer shops and high-end hotels. Further away from the harbour, it felt more and more like a never-ending story. Shop after shop, in addition to restaurants, bars, hotels, and whatever else you might need, or don’t need. Not to say that Hong Kong Island isn’t like that too, but still I found it different. Also, for some reason Kowloon felt more…Chinese… Amidst all the shopping craze you do find some relaxing greens lungs, with Kowloon Park being the biggest one, but a few smaller ones as well. The harbour area might not be as relaxing as the parks, but it was also a nice place to get back to after walking the streets, for a bit more open space and superb views. There’s several museums located here too.
