After a superb visit to a Japanese cafe in Malta, I was very happy to discover, that I could have a similar experience at home, in Oslo, Norway. It appears a few have popped up around town. PAN by Bread N Butter, is located in Storo, which made it a convenient spot for my lunch break. The vast food selection, however, didn’t make things easy. There are hot and cold sandwiches, salads, their several takes on Eggs Benedict, baos, and other savory bread items. Cakes, like melonpans and karafuru pans, cookies, cheesecakes, and cheese tartlets. If you wanna sample a little bit of “everything”, they have platters, like menu deals, including a sandwich, salad, cake / dessert, and drink. I would have liked to tried it all 😀 But being realistic, I settled on a hot sandwich, a Chicken Katsu Sando – crispy fried chicken cutlets, honey tonkatsu sauce, and cabbage salad, between slices of Japanese milk bread. It looked great, and taste was in line. To drink, an iced matcha latte, my new go-to. For dessert, an ube cookie was brought back to the office 🙂 Big, and super soft! In addition to excellent food, the staff is welcoming, and their level of customer service is something I rarely come across. When my drink didn’t show up, I inquired. They apologised, and before I knew it, a matcha tartlet had found its way to my table. And my iced matcha latte had been spiked, double dose of matcha. Needless to say, I was beyond full, and I am for sure going back!
As previously mentioned, PAN is located in the Nydalen / Storo area, across from Lillo Gård, which has another splendid restaurant, Lille O. The cafe front is quite anonymous, so you might pass it by without knowing. Inside is nice. It’s not the biggest place, so it will easily fill up.
