Titou Gorge

is swimming titou gorge worth it

Titou Gorge on Dominica is definitely a freezing cold experience. It’s safe to say it was refreshing 🙂 But not a thing you can not miss out on… After being numbed by, a.k.a. getting used to, the chilly fresh water, I just leaned back, onto my handed-out floating device, and paddled slowly away into the gorge. I read that the cliff walls are canopied by interwoven trees, and that light is filtering through, which sounds amazing, but I honestly thought I was inside a cave. It was pretty dark. Could be trees have been cleared since then. There was a bit more light at the small waterfall, which you reach further in, not a very long swim from the gorge opening. Here some jumped off a ledge on the mountain wall, into a deep pool beneath it. Others chose not to, and just got dragged across the current at the bottom of the waterfall. Really nothing impressive.

For the movie buffs Titou Gorge is also known as a “Pirates of the Caribbean” location.

This was a stop on a tour with Levi and his Bumpiing Tours. I can highly recommend them for anyone visiting, if they are still in business…

Dominica was a port on my cruise with Celebrity Cruises.
