The Charlottenburg Palace Gardens in Berlin, turned out to be quite big, a lot more ground than I had imagined. From artfully designed to pure wilderness. At the far back I didn’t feel like I was in a garden, more like in the woods, with small rivers and a lake. It kind of turned into a hike. I covered the whole thing, lengthwise, from the palace until I reached the train tracks, at which point I was very happy to realise I’d soon be on my way home. Because was it all worth it, as the gardens are to be among the finest in Germany? Nah… There’s basically not much to see. I passed the blue and white, garden palace Belvedere. Besides that nothing. There’s a mausoleum and a playground somewhere, but I never came across them, not that I think it would have made a difference to my experience. My advise is, unless you want to go for a hike without leaving the city, do the palace and its immediate “backyard”, or maybe just ditch the whole thing… I guess it’s worth noting I didn’t go inside the palace.
