Train Travel in the Benelux

train overland travel amsterdam rotterdam delft netherlands brussels bruges antwerp belgium

After a few years of travelling I realise I’ve racked up some train travel in the Netherlands and Belgium – however travelled to Luxembourg by RV 🙂 It’s been Amsterdam to Antwerp, Brussels to Bruges, Rotterdam to Delft and Amsterdam, and, of course, the commute stretch of Antwerp to Brussels, or vice versa – either way you get to enjoy the splendid looking train station in Antwerp – a real beauty! Going by train has proved to be an easy way to get around the area as the distances are short, and they have all been smooth sailings. Many years ago when I travelled from Amsterdam to Antwerp, there were two trains on the same side of the platform, so one had to make sure one got on the right train 🙂 Also the lady working the ticket booth, told me that if I made my way to the front of the train, I would be able to sit in first class, for free, on my economy ticket. I never got to try this out as I was a bit stressed out by the two trains situation, and was just happy I got on the correct one. I assume things have evolved since then on both issues 🙂 I’ve never bought tickets online, just got them at the station upon arrival, but it’s possible at these links: belgiantrain.be (Belgium) and ns.nl (Netherlands).

    1. I was told this before I arrived the first time in Antwerp, but I thought it was a local just bragging 😀

Love to hear your comment :)
