Del Glaciar Libertador is a good basic accommodation choice when visiting El Calafate, Argentina. Even though it’s on the outskirts of the town centre, it is central, as this is a small Patagonian “village”. A short walk and you’re amidst all the shops, cafes and restaurants. There’s a park nearby, and the bus terminal is just up the hill, in walking distance, if you take on the challenge of navigating through the barren area of houses and dirt roads – upon having a look at it, I am glad I didn’t 😀 Breakfast was included in my rate, and happy with what I got. Two downsides to this place though. Staff is not the most friendly spirited. But then again, for some reason stepping into Argentina it felt like the niceness took a dive, compared to Chile. They also wondered why I would like to pay for late check-out, as I could sit in the foyer or walk around town. Hmm, spent my money elsewhere… Second, if you cannot pay in cash, they charge the amount in American dollars, based on their own exchange rate, and, if I remember correctly, add a credit card fee on top of that. In other words, have cash!
