On the Road: Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales in Chilean Patagonia

Honestly, this was probably not the most interesting bus ride I’ve been on. I thought Chilean Patagonia would have more to offer than it did scenery wise. It wasn’t until we reached Puerto Natales that things started to look up. That’s when the peaks of Torres del Paine made their entry. But unfortunately that’s also when the ride was over 😀 Anyhow, it was a 3 hours ride only, so no huge amount of time wasted, and a cheap way (13 usd) of getting to where I needed to go. After packing layers on layers the previous days, it was nice to defrost in the sunshine.

I decided to go with Bus-Sur for this stretch. Buying tickets on their website you are re-routed to Recorrido. No problems booking, paid via PayPal. No problems at the ticket office upon departure. The Bus-Sur terminal is in the centre of Punta Arenas. To make sure it was an easy walk from my hotel, I did recon the day before. Talked to the guy at the ticket office, and was told I only needed to be there 15 minutes prior to departure. On the day of, bags are tagged, you get a receipt. No weighing of luggage. You’ve selected a seat at booking. A seat that reclines, has footrest, and, for me, I’m short, has enough legroom.
