Punta Arenas in the Chilean Antarctica Region

what to do see punta arenas chile antarctica

With my flight to Puerto Williams, the world’s southernmost town, being cancelled due to a snowstorm, and my whole trip therefore not happening, I had more time in Punta Arenas, Chile, than I had planned for. Well, with the flight first being delayed for 5 hours, then cancelled, and then me getting caught up in a security drill at the airport that lasted for an hour and a half, it came down to not too much extra time. Considering that Punta Arenas is more a base for exploring the areas around it, than for being an attraction in itself, the close to two full days I ended up having at my disposal, were more than enough. A fairly quiet place, with a local vibe, I spent the hours walking the streets, eating at great restaurants, chilling at cafes, and doing a little bit of shopping – in the sun, in the wind, in the rain, in the snow. It grew on me after a while.

  1. Glad you made the most of the not too much extra time. I flew last week and flights were delayed about 2 hours on both ends. That’s travel!

    1. Knock on wood, but I’ve never had many disruptions when travelling. This time though I had one very delayed flight and two flights cancelled.

  2. Sometimes those “hub” sorts of cities turn out to be really great places to live in (and visit). I live in one of those that wouldn’t necessarily be recommended for tourists but has some great gems 😉

Love to hear your comment :)
