Coming from a Radisson to La Casona in Santiago, Chile, is quite the jump. Looking at the pictures, I’m thinking it’s not that bad, but it kind of is 😀 Well, the common areas are nice, except for the kitchen, at first glance. Dirty pots and pans made me quickly decide I wasn’t going to heat that tea water after all. The day after it was spotless. Could have been my fellow guests who hadn’t cleaned up after themselves… No reason to sugarcoat though. The hostel is very basic and very worn down. However didn’t seem dirty. Good features: centrally located with locked gate on quiet side street a short walk from Plaza de Armas; in Bellas Artes neighbourhood with popular restaurants, cafes and such around; nice, helpful, English speaking staff; a heater, much needed in the cold evenings; warm water for long evening showers to defrost, and cheap!
