Fell’s Point: Hip and Historic

what to do see fells point neighborhood baltimore maryland usa

Like so many other old working class neighbourhoods, Fell’s Point in Baltimore has been revamped, and gotten new higher-income tenants, but luckily has kept the cobblestone streets and lovely houses from its 1763 beginnings. Don’t know what the buildings’ main functions were back then, but these days they accommodate restaurants, bars, cafes, and small boutiques, in addition to some million dollar homes. The eateries and shops you find here are not like anywhere else. A lot of interesting looking places, so you just have to commit to one. I went with Mexican style tacos, not the gringo version, as it said on the menu 🙂 , and warm, fresh out of the oven cookies for dessert, on a bench, at the main square, in the sunshine. Nice and quiet on a Tuesday morning, just the way I like it. From the look of it, a lot more lively at nightfall 🙂

Fell’s Point is located by the waterfront, so you can easily (I think, the hotel receptionist didn’t agree with me 🙂 ) walk from downtown along the harbor. It’s neither a very short nor a very long walk. Didn’t time it 🙂 I enjoyed getting the chance to have a look around. The front desk also suggested Fell’s Point over Federal Hill, which I was planning on doing, as there are more happening here. That advice I took 🙂

  1. I love these historic buildings. There’s one in San Diego that was left in place while the ball stadium was built around it, giving the ballpark such character!

Love to hear your comment :)
