Charleston in South Carolina was such a surprise! I had no idea I was gonna like it as much as I did. I considered this Savannah, Georgia‘s, little, obligatory, southern sibling, kind of. I had read somewhere that others had had the same expectations, and were astounded too, so I guess this just solidifies my impression of the place. The historic district centres on the city market, which is surrounded by small, cute, speciality shops. Among them a cookie store with jars of free samples, and a sugar and spice shop, where I had a very hard time choosing what to get, and what to unwillingly leave behind. Further south you’ll run into beautiful parks, waterfront promenades, and elegant residential areas. You basically need to walk off, sometimes into the unknown, to enjoy this little gem of a town.
