The Living Dune

visit sand dune desert outer banks north carolina usa

The shape changing sand dunes of Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head, is must when visiting the Outer Banks in North Carolina. The small desertlike area was actually a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be, stretching all the way to the sound side of the island. It definitely felt huge when there were four people only roaming around the hills this morning – nothing less than perfect, I’d say 🙂 I loved scaling them! Before you get to the sand dues themselves, you pass a visitor centre, with some barbecue areas next to it, adjacent to the parking lot. After that just follow one of the trails, and soon the beauty lays before you 🙂

  1. Wow, it feels like you’re all alone in the middle of a desert! What a gorgeous place… although just thinking of all of that sand in my shoes gives me the shivers. Hahaha, I don’t know what it is about sand, but it’s not my favourite thing. #FarawayFiles

    1. I had a great time “playing” in the dunes!! Then this might not be for you 🙂 I think I got it real bad, because my sneakers had “air holes” 😉
