A Resort Town on the Dolphin Coast

umhlanga rocks durban south africa

There’s a few words that have been used to describe Umhlanga in the greater Durban area. But two things I can confirm, resorts and dolphins. Umhlanga is mostly an affluent residential area, but are also filled with guesthouses, hotels and holiday apartments. When looking into places to stay, I was debating wether to go for Umhlanga Ridge or Umhlanga Rocks. Very glad I went for the rocks instead of the ridge. At the Ridge you will find The Gateway Theatre of Shopping, the largest shopping mall in the southern hemisphere, they say. At the Rocks on the other hand, you will find a small village centre filled with restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, and shops, and a great piece of coastline with stunning beaches. In essence, all you need. And when I told my guesthouse hostess I was going for a walk along the beach, she told me to look out for the whales and the dolphins, and sure enough, dolphins were travelling by in the waves off shore. So cool!

    1. Yes! I was so happy I got to see them. And so glad the guesthouse hostess had mentioned them, otherwise I wouldn’t have looked for and spotted them.

Love to hear your comment :)
