Mom and Pop Serving Kebap

sevinc kebap evi top kebab restaurant izmir

Sevinc Kebap Evi in Izmir, Turkey, I came across randomly. I spotted a raving review on Google, that spoke to me. It doesn’t look like much approaching it, but inside it looks like you’ve stepped into someone’s kitchen. When I arrived, I was the only one there, but some locals popped in after a while, which always is a good sign. You kind of need to be a local to find it. Because it is located on a quiet side street. I couldn’t see anything else down the road, so you’ll probably not just happen upon it.

This is a family-run restaurant, with welcoming mom and pop behind the counter. English is limited, but more than adequate to get a great meal. They serve kebab only, so no menu. And no need for it, the food I got was super, and portion huge. I could not finish my plate, very far from it. There’s chicken, beef, I opted out of lamb, bread, veggies, herbs, salsa, and french fries. Wrap it up like a taco, he said, when he saw me not sure how to go about it 😀 Then came complementary Turkish tea, and a bottle of water to take away – I’ve never had that happen before.

This was also the first time I noticed locals, or anyone for that matter, getting milk when eating out. Later saw a tourist asking for milk on the plane, when offered drinks, and the staff looked a bit bewildered 😀

How do you find Sevinc Kebap Evi? Locate the train station. Facing it, take the side street to the left of it. A few metres, and it’ll appear on your left. Enjoy!
