Hitchhiker Has Taken a Turn for the Better

hitchhiker top central restaurant oslo

Many years ago, Hitchhiker was a street food vendor at the upscale food hall, Mathallen, in Oslo, Norway. Still in Oslo, but now they have their own restaurant downtown. In my mind, the difference is striking. What I remember from last time, is a dark, packed space, with small, expensive, tapas style, Asian dishes, that didn’t stand out in taste. My friends, who joined me, left far from full. Now, it seems like they’ve abandoned the former concept. On the menu are lunch dishes, a la carte, and set menus. Still not cheap, but the fish dish we were served was delicious! For some reason, the lunch dishes are more expensive than the a la carte dinner dishes – go figure. It is also nice to enjoy a meal in colourful, whimsical surroundings, and not the gloomy corner of a food court.

I see they advertise dumpling classes on their website. That I’d like to join!

Hitchhiker is centrally located. A couple of blocks off Karl Johans gate, but nothing you’ll randomly bump into, unless you’re staying at the adjacent hotels. It’s part of Sentralen event venue.

Here are other restaurants in Oslo. Happy eating 🙂
