Bastard Burgers is a restaurant chain that originates from Luleå in Northern Sweden. It has expanded to many places, including New York’s East Village, since opening its first 17 seat, hole-in-the-wall joint, in 2016. I didn’t find it in me to head over to the original spot, in the pouring rain, so decided the restaurant at Luleå Shopping (mall) would have to make do. And I don’t think it made any difference. I had high hopes, but this was merely a notch up from a fast food chain. Better than McDonalds, yes, but not very exciting in taste. Has nothing on the smash burger I enjoyed in Krakow, Poland. My London burger, with truffle mayo, cheese, pickled red onions, and lettuce, accompanied by onion rings, like 3(!), and the prefabricated Bastard Original dip, came in at 200 SEK. Not cheap, really, considering what I got. There are lots of veggie and vegan options. Never seen this many in other places. Industrial interior, with graffiti, and stickers. Order at self-service kiosks. Food ready for pick-up pretty quickly.
In addition to several restaurants throughout Sweden, and the aforementioned eatery in New York, there are two spots in Oslo, Norway, and in Finland.
If burgers not a must, you might wanna give Kazoku a go.
