In all fairness, what I did do, in Sarpsborg, Norway, was walk from the train station to the football stadium, with a pit stop at a cafe. I was here on a day trip from Oslo, via Fredrikstad, for a football match. A colleague, a local, told me there’s not much to see outside the pedestrian main street, so I didn’t stray off. It is a small town, therefore can in itself be quickly done. Some nice architecture here and there. A cool bear sculpture. Turns out the whole town is a sculpture park. Have lots of nifty artwork scattered around. Check out suggested walks. Hadn’t the rain been pouring down, that’s something I’d like to explore.
Reaching Sarpsborg from Oslo, is easily done by train, on Vy. The trip is 1 hour and 10 minutes, and costs 287 NOK (2025). Add 65 kroner, if you want to reserve a seat. The train station is 6 blocks from the main street, but not a long walk, just uphill. No signs, and not intuitive where to head after exiting the station, so look up St. Marie gate on a map.
