I have always been a bit sceptical of the food trucks in Oslo, Norway. Tortas EL Tommy has however caught my eye, so when they finally decided to set up shop in my area of town, Lambertseter, I seized the opportunity, to have authentic Mexican food, as advertised. I didn’t have tortas when visiting Mexico, but I’m thinking this must be spot on, or at least close to. Why? There’s a line, there are Spanish speaking customers, patrons, and a Latin named owner, not Tommy, but his wife. Valid or not? Some might to argue it is a stretch 😀 Either way, I was very happy with my take. Definitely good quality food served. I had the Carnitas sandwich. Mexican style ribs, melted Oaxaca cheese, tomato slices, onions, and avocado. And it was huge!! I had trouble finishing the whole thing. I asked their son to add whatever salsa would fit the best. I got Salsa piquin, which I was told had a little sting to it. It did, but just perfect. And pickled jalapeños. Not my thing. For dessert, I went with a chocolate concha. A sweet bun, with a thin sugar cover that tasted a tad of chocolate. In a way, it reminds me of the Japanese melonpan. Next time, yes, there will be a next time, I’m giving their tacos a go. This might become my go-to Mexican restaurant in Oslo, because the others I’ve been to, did not impress…
According to their social media, they alternate between Rådhusplassen, Oslo S, and Stortorvet, in addition to Lambertseter. Follow them, to find out when and where. Do takeaway, like me, I had a football match to catch on TV 🙂 , or sit at the tables they have put out.
