Wandering the Streets of Asuncion, Paraguay

what to see do asuncion paraguay

I really don’t know how to describe this city. It feels like a mash-up of things. In some instances a developing, off-the-grid society. On other occasions, a place which is on point and prosperous, sporting higher-end restaurants and cafes, branded shops, a waterfront promenade, and street art – large wall murals interspersed among buildings ranging from run down to showing off beautiful, vibrant, colonial architecture. Despite not being quite able to figuring this concoction out, I found myself highly enjoying the couple of days I had to spend here, but also happy I hadn’t set aside more time. The city centre isn’t big, so unless you have plans to go on a shopping spree in the affluent Villa Mora neighbourhood, or crossing Paraguay River for a day trip to the small town on the other side of the waterway, I’d say two days are enough. That said, it doesn’t mean you should consider skipping Asuncion altogether. That would be an oversight, especially if you like to have a place all to yourself 😉
